Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR, now has a different meaning to his name. K stands for Kalvalu, C for Cheruvulu and R for Reservoirlu, as defined by his son and IT minister K.T. Rama Rao.
Sharing a few pictures on his Twitter handle of the Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir which KCR inaugurated by releasing the water on Saturday, KTR redefined his father’s name and said: “Medigadda nundi Kondapochamma varaku.. 82 meterla ettu nundi 618 meterla ettuvaraku (From Medigadda to Kondapochamma, water would be lifted from 82 metres to 618 meters; World’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project completed in 3 years by India’s youngest state Telangana.”
KCR inaugurated Markook pumphouse in Siddipet district, which is the last of the giant multi-stage Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project on Friday, after performing Chandi Yagam at the Kondapochamma temple nearby.
“The Kondapochamma Sagar will provide water for irrigation to 2.85 lakh acres, along with the Keshavapuram reservoir to be opened soon. These will ensure a permanent solution for drinking water needs of Hyderabad. Thanks to Hon’ble CM KCR’s vision to build infrastructure for long term (sic)” tweeted KTR.
With the water being released to the Kondapochamma Sagar rerservoir through Markook pumphouse, Godavari water reached a maximum height in the last phase of the lift irrigation scheme. The Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir level is 618 m and is estimated to provide irrigation facility to 2,85,280 acres of ayacut through 13 canals. It has a capacity of 15 tmcft. The Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir was built at a cost of Rs 1,668.55 crore. With three main sluices, the reservoir will provide irrigation and drinking water through gravity to Siddipet, Sangareddy and Bhongir districts.
