From GHMC Commissioner to Telangana government’s Chief Secretary, Somesh Kumar has come a long way. The 1989 batch of the IAS from Bihar assumed the office of CS on January 4th 2020 and he would be continuing in this post till December 2023, till the conduct of the Telangana Assembly elections that will be held by the time.
It was Telangana CM KCR who preferred Somesh Kumar’s name for Chief Secretary keeping aside many notable names. And Somesh Kumar always acts and takes decision at the behest of KCR and oppositions criticise that the bureaucrat lacks freedom.
But in a shocking detail, there are 290 Contempt of Court cases against Somesh Kumar and among the other Chief Secretaries in India, Telangana CS Somesh stood top in violating court orders.
Even more shockingly to deal with the legal expenses of Somesh’s cases, the KCR government has released Rs 58 crore. That’s a lot of public money getting wasted on wrongdoings of a state’s top bureaucrat.
That’s serious a concern yet there is no one to question the Telangana government. Even of there is one, KCR knows how to suppress the voice. We are yet to hear from Somesh Kumar’s reaction on this but generally he doesn’t talk much before the media.
