Self promotion is the mantra of new age politics. Governments – state or centre – often indulge in promotion of its leader to get due political benefit in the next election. One such is YSR Jagananna Colonies. Each household of these colonies are likely to have CM YS Jagan’s photo. The bhumipooja saw the beneficiaries holding CM Jagan’s picture in their hands and striking pose for the pictures.
This naturally hasn’t gone down well with the opposition parties. They alleged that CM Jagan’s self-promotion is at peaks. BJP leaders went a step further and alleged that PM Narendra Modi’s pictures are missing as the scheme is largely supported by Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Going into details, YSR Jagananna Colonies project is aimed at building houses for poor in the state. Houses for poor is CM Jagan’s brainchild under Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu promise he had made in the election manifesto. The scheme was virtually launched in June 2021.
During the launch of the program, CM Jagan had stated that the government is building not houses but 17,000 colonies which can better be described as 17,000 towns. As part of it, 28.30 lakh houses at the cost of Rs 50,944 Crore. Under the first phase, 15.60 lakh houses will be constructed at a cost of Rs 28,084 crore. The first phase is aimed at completing by June 2022. The second phase will commence soon after. The construction of 28.30 lakh houses is taken up by AP state government with the support of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
AP government has earlier distributed free house site pattas to 30.76 lakh beneficiaries who are identified from the poor, marginal sections. Now, the state government has embarked on the construction of houses for poor in phased manner. Politics aside, the move is likely to benefit poor in large numbers.
