Telangana’s Decision Causing Water Wastage In AP!

Published by

In the wake of water disputes between Andhra president and Telangana, the government of Telangana’s decision is leading to excessive water wastage in Andhra Pradesh and here is the story behind the whole fiasco.

The government of Telangana is utilising the water in Pulichintala project for its hydro electric project. Subsequently, they are releasing all the outflow water to Prakasam Barrage.

Prakasam Barrage is already operating at its full capacity of 3.07 TMCs and there is nothing they can do with the excess water coming in from Pulichintala project than divert it to the Bay of Bengal ocean. This is resulting in excessive water wastage.

Kharif season is just around the corner and utilising every bit of irrigation water is of utmost importance. With rainfalls not on satisfactory level, the water that is being stored at large-scale water projects will serve as lifeline to farmers in Andhra Pradesh . However, the government of Telangana’s unilateral decisions are resulting in unnecessary water wastage and that in turn directly affects the farmers in Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana government is utilising more water than it actually needs and moreover, it is carrying out unprompted hydro electric projects. The government is willing to let the water go in waste by diverting it to the ocean rather than letting Andhra Pradesh use it. The sad state of affairs between the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will soon show adverse effects on the common public.
