PM Modi’s renewed Union Council of Ministers saw 43 new and promoted faces, including a wide spectrum of young and experienced leaders global wide. What’s intriguing is, the Union Cabinet has taken the number of women a notch up or say, the representation of women in PM’s renewed cabinet. Modi 2.0 Union Council of Ministers has a total of 11 women ministers and all of them took oath yesterday.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman continues to hold additional charge of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Smriti Irani has now been relieved of the Ministry of Textile and will continue to remain, Minister of Women and Child Development, (WCD). BJP leaders Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Renuka Singh Saruta remained unchanged. Jyoti is MoS in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, as well as the Ministry of Rural Development. Sarut is MOS in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Other women cabinet ministers are:
Anupriya Patel is the leader of Apna Dal, the BJP’s NDA ally in Uttar Pradesh. She has also served as an MoS in the Ministry of Health during PM Modi’s first term in office.
Shobha Karandlaje has been given charge as MoS in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. She is also a two-time Member of Parliament and a part of the Karnataka government.
Darshana Jardosh has been appointed as MoS in the Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Railways. Before elections to the Lok Sabha, Jardosh was a Corporator of the Surat Municipal Corporation and also a member of the Gujarat Social Welfare Board.
BJP leader Meenakashi Lekhi is a Supreme Court lawyer and has been a member of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). Lekhi has been given charge as MoS in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Culture.
Annpurna Devi is a 4-time MLA who is currently Lok Sabha MP from Kodarma in Jharkhand. Annpurna Devi has been appointed as MoS in the Ministry of Education.
First-time BJP MP from Tripura West, Pratima Bhoumik, has been given charge of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment as a Minister of State (MoS).
Dr Bharati Pawar is a first-time Lok Sabha MP from Maharashtra’s Dindori served as a member of the Nashik Zila Parishad. She has been appointed as MoS in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
