Ahead of 2019 Andhra Pradesh elections, YSRCP chief YS Jagan promised to enhance social welfare pension from Rs 1000 to Rs 3000 if he is voted to power. He promised Avvaas and Thaathaas that he would provide financial support to them through this scheme.
After winning the election, Jagan announced he would gradually increase the monthly pension amount in the next five years i.e., Rs 2250 in 2020, Rs 2500 in 2021, Rs 2750 in 2022, and finally Rs 3000 in 2023.
As per Jagan’s announcement, he is supposed to hike the pension amount on 8th July every year, which marked his father YSR’s Jayanthi.
However, Jagan did not make announcement on the hike in pension amount while addressing the public on the occasion of YSR Jayanthi this year. Nor did the government pass any order in regard to hike in pension amount.
The pension amount is still locked at Rs 2250 and has not been hiked to Rs 2500. Thus, Jagan has disappointed Avvaas and Thaathaas in Andhra Pradesh by not living up to his word on the pension scheme.
Andhra Pradesh government is already running on a deficit budget and it would be a really task for Jagan to enhance the pension scheme now. It appears to be that he is left with no other option but to break his promise.
