Neeraj Chopra became an overnight sensation after winning gold for India in the men’s javelin throw finale of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Saturday. He consolidated the first position after his 87.58m throw made none of the participants overhaul his record.
And then his Instagram followers saw a terrific rise in numbers. The javelin thrower’s followers have grown by more than a million on Instagram. Several screenshots appeared on Twitter and Instagram comparing before and after numbers. This clearly tells that people are now taking him as a role model and are looking up to him.
Neeraj Chopra began his tryst with sports in order to lose some pounds off his body. He used to weigh 90 kilos at 12 years of age. Neeraj also used to hate physical activity and with a forced morning jog session at Shivaji Stadium, he once met javelin thrower, Jai Choudhary. This was where the making of history would begin.
Neeraj is the youngest Indian to win the Olympic gold, the first in track-and-field, and the only one to do it in his debut games. With Chopra’s gold medal, India signed off the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with a total of seven medals, a gold, two silver, and four bronze.
