After winning three medals the other day, the Indian contingent continued its supreme form at the Tokyo Paralympics today as well. The Monday turned out to be more fruitful as India won a Gold, two silver, and a bronze medal in the last few hours.
Avani Lekhara- Gold in Shooting:
Avani Lekhara created history by becoming the first Indian woman to clinch a gold medal in either Olympics or the Paralympics. She stood first in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event that was held this morning. She equaled the world record total score of 249.6 in the final.
Yogesh Kathunia – Silver in Discus Throw:
Discus Thrower Yogesh Kathunia won the silver medal in the men’s F56 event held this morning. The 24-year-old B.Com graduate recorded the best distance of 44.38m in his sixth and last attempt. He was a bronze medallist in the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships.
Devendra Jhajharia and Sundar Singh Gurjar – Silver and Bronze in Javelin Throw:
India witnessed a double podium finish this morning in Javelin Throw. Devendra and Sundar Singh won silver and bronze medals respectively in the men’s javelin throw – F46 final event. While Devendra recorded his best throw of 64.35, Sundar Singh also got his personal best with 64.01.
With these wins, India’s medal tally now stands at 7. The entire nation is flooding these winners with congratulatory messages.
