Iconic football player Cristiano Ronaldo added another feather to his glorious cap. The Portugal skipper has now become the top international scorer in men’s football history, with 111 goals. Ronaldo achieved this feat by breaking the previous record of Iran striker Ali Daei (109 goals).
The 36-year-old star striker scored two goals in the penultimate stages of the match against Ireland which was held as a part of World Cup 2022 qualifiers. Portugal was lagging behind Ireland with a score of 0-1 until the final stages of the game.
It was Ronaldo who brought them back into the fight by scoring a goal in the 89th minute and equaled the score.
During the extra time, he scored another goal in the 96th minute and sealed the game for Portugal with a score of 2-1.
“I’m very happy, not only because I beat the record but for the special moments that we had,” said Ronaldo.
“Two goals at the end of the game is so tough, but I have to appreciate what the team did. We believed until the end,” he further added.
