Multiple England players are pulling out of the upcoming second leg of IPL 2021, citing tight schedule and bio-bubble fatigue issues. Already, the likes of Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes have decided not to participate in the tournament.
Now, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, and Chris Woakes have joined the list. Dawid, Jonny, and Woakes represent Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals respectively in the league. Punjab Kings replaced Malan with South African cricketer Aiden Makram.
Malan, Bairstow, and Woakes have been named in England’s T20 World Cup squad and may feature in the Ashes series which will start right after the World Cup.
This may make all three players stay away from home for more than four months and restricts them to be in the bio-bubble all the time across all these tournaments. As a result, they will feel exhausted and their mental health may also get affected due to the quarantine restrictions.
This leaves IPL 2021 to feature only 10 England players now, who are, Eoin Morgan, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, and George Garton.
The second half of IPL 2021 is all set to begin on September 19th in the UAE.
