Team India has ended its T20 World Cup run by winning the last Super 12 League match against Namibia. This match also marked the end of Virat Kohli’s tenure as T20 Captain. He announced stepping down from captaincy before the start of the T20 World Cup and fans hoped that Kohli will sign off on a high note.
To the utter disappointment of millions of fans, team India performed poorly, losing important matches against Pakistan and New Zealand. For the first time in history, team India lost to Pakistan in a World Cup tournament and Kohli holds this infamous record as he walks out of captaincy.
Also New Zealand has become a big hurdle for team India. From the 2019 World Cup to World Test Championship and now in the T20 World Cup, the BlackCaps outplayed team India in all the matches.
As the skipper of the side, Kohli captained team India in 50 T20 matches and won 32 out of them. Under Kohli’s captaincy team India won T20 bilateral series in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and England which is a feat.
After the match against Namibia, Virat Kohli took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Together as one we set out to achieve our goal. Unfortunately we fell short and no one is more disappointed than us as a side. The support from all of you has been fantastic and we are grateful for it all. We will aim to come back stronger and put our best foot forward. Jai Hind”
