T20 World Cup: Australia Beats Unbeatable Pak To Enter Finals

Published by

Pakistan was the only team to be unbeaten in the ongoing T20 World Cup. It had won its 5 league games and qualified for the semifinals. It also had a 16-match winning streak in the UAE. However, all those records don’t matter now as Pak lost its crucial semifinal game against Australia tonight. The Aussies have put on a stunning chase to witness a remarkable victory against Pakistan.

After winning the toss, Australia’s skipper Aaron Finch chose to bowl first. Pak batters gave him a befitting reply by putting on a superb show. Openers Babar Azam (39) and Mohammed Rizwan (67) made a partnership of 71 runs for the first wicket.

After Babar got out, Rizwan made a partnership of 72 runs with Fakhar Zaman (55*). Once Rizwan was dismissed, Australian bowlers managed to scalp the wickets of Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali in quick intervals. But the half-centuries of Rizwan and Fakhar have helped Pakistan in scoring 176/4 in 20 overs.

Australia had a disastrous start while chasing this target. Opener and skipper Aaron Finch was dismissed in the first over itself. But the Aussies recovered well with the help of David Warner (49) and Mitchell Marsh’s (28) partnership. Especially, Warner was exceptional with the bat. However, he got dismissed in an unlucky way in the 11th over. After the dismissals of Smith, Warner and Maxwell, the Aussies were in deep-neck trouble.

Then, Marcus Stoinis (40* off 31 balls) and Matthew Wade (41* off 17 balls) took the charge and made sure not to lose another wicket. They started off slowly but started banging Pak bowlers hard in the death overs. Finally, Wade smashed 22 runs in the 19th over bowled by Shaheen Afridi and finished the game with one over remaining. As a result, Australia managed to score 177/5 in 19 overs. Barring Shadab Khan (4/26), no other bowler contributed well for Pak.

The Aussies will now face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021 Final on November 14.
