The BCCI selectors announced the Test squad for the bilateral series against New Zealand and disappointingly Telugu cricketer Hanuma Vihari did not find a place. Vihari was part of India’s squad for the series with England but he did not play a single match for team’s composition reasons.
And for the series against the BlackCaps, Vihari was supposed to be an automatic choice. Shockingly he was omitted from the squad and he has been included in India A squad for the tour of South Africa.
Vihari last played the Sydney Test and he batted for 40 overs with a hamstring injury and saved the Test match for team India. His innings with Ravi Ashwin was one of the crucial knocks and fans still remember the gritty innings.
Popular cricket commentator and expert Harsha Bhogle was really astonished that Vihari did not get into the squad. “Am I missing something here? I cannot see a reason why #HanumaVihari is not in the test squad for #IndvsNZ. Injury? Can’t be on cricketing grounds….there hasn’t been any first-class cricket. Surely it can’t be right. His last innings for India was that heroic effort at Sydney,” tweeted Harsha Bhogle.
The selectors of BCCI are to be blamed for the recent failures of team India. The likes of Varun Chakravorthy, Rahul Chahar were given a chance for T20 World Cup based on the performance of IPL and they failed to make any impact without prior international cricket experience.
