As Rahul Dravid has now become the head coach of Team India, he left his position of being the head of National Cricket Academy (NCA), Under-19, and India A teams. BCCI wanted to appoint former cricketer VVS Laxman in this position but he was uninterested in taking the job. But after holding discussions with the BCCI once again, Laxman is now ready to become the in-charge of NCA.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly confirmed the news to the ANI, just about a while ago. Apparently, he wanted another former star like Dravid to head the NCA. Thus, he persuaded Laxman in taking up the job. An official statement from the BCCI is expected to be released once all the formalities are finished.
According to the reports, Laxman will take charge after India A’s tour of South Africa which will be held later this month. Former Saurashtra player Sitanshu Kotak will be in charge of India A during this tour.
It was heard that Laxman was initially not interested in taking up this responsibility because he didn’t want to shift base to Bangalore by leaving his family in Hyderabad.
But it seems that BCCI made necessary negotiations and made him agree to take up the task.
Laxman is currently working as a commentator and is also a mentor for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. After assuming duties at the NCA, he has to leave both these jobs.
