Virat Kohli made sensational comments earlier today about his captaincy. He said that neither BCCI nor its president Sourav Ganguly asked him not to give up the T20 captaincy when he took the decision.
Just a few days back, Ganguly made a contradictory statement saying that he asked Kohli not to step down as the T20 captain when the latter took the decision back in September this year. These two contrasting statements from both sides prove that things are not going well in Indian Cricket.
Virat Kohli attended a press meet earlier today as the Indian team is leaving for South Africa tour for a Test and an ODI series. In the media interaction, Kohli said that he was informed about his ODI captaincy removal just 1.5 hours before the selection of the SA tour has happened.
Kohli said that he got a call from the selection committee before announcing the Test squad for the SA tour. After discussing with the Test team, Kohli was informed that the committee has decided to drop him as the captain for the ODIs. Apparently, Kohli replied, ‘Okay, fine.’
Going by Kohli’s statements, it looks like the BCCI and the selection committee took this harsh decision without any prior initimation. Still, Kohli handled the situation well and is not making any fuss about it.
The star player also confirmed that he will be available for the ODI selection as well.
