Team India started off the home series against West Indies in style. Rohit Sharma and his men completely dominated the Caribbeans and registered a comprehensive victory by 6 wickets in the first ODI held at Ahmedabad. This also happens to be India’s 1000th ODI and the victory made it more special.
Rohit Sharma took charge as the full-time ODI captain with this series. After winning the toss, he chose to bowl first. His decision turned out to be fruitful as Indian bowlers started troubling the Windies batters right from the beginning. Both Siraj (1/26) and Prasidh Krishna (2/29) were equally good as the opening bowlers. Later, Washington Sundar (3/30) and Yuzvendra Chahal (4/49) carried the momentum further and made things even for the opponents.
Barring Jason Holder (57) and Fabien Allen (29), no other batter was able to handle India well in the innings. As a result, West Indies got all-out for mere 176 runs in 43.5 overs.
Indian batters started off the chase on a high note. It looked like a whole different pitch while they were batting because Rohit Sharma (60) and Ishan Kishan (28) played with ease. They made a partnership of 84 runs for the first wicket. In the process, Rohit also scored a quick-fire half-century. Though Virat Kohli and Rishab Pant failed to score big, Surya Kumar Yadav (34) and Deepak Hooda (26) have taken India to the victory shores pretty easily.
With a dominating batting performance, India managed to score 178/4 in just 28 overs. Chahal was awarded the man of the match for his brilliant spell.
The second ODI will be held on February 9 at the very same venue.
