Indian Premier League is undeniably the biggest cricket league in the world. It enjoys a massive fandom in India. Whenever there is an IPL match being held, the stadiums will be packed with the crowd.
The same is the case in Hyderabad as well. Hyderabad’s Uppal Stadium is the home ground of Sunrisers Hyderabad. There are many cricket enthusiasts and SRH fans in the city who used to flood the stadium during the IPL games.
However, there are no IPL matches being held in Hyderabad for the last three years. The last time Hyderabad hosted an IPL game was in 2019. The 2020 edition was held in the UAE. The 2021 edition was held in India/UAE. But Hyderabad didn’t host any game in that edition as well.
The 2022 edition is being held in India. While the league games are being hosted by Mumbai and Pune, Ahmedabad and Kolkata are selected as the venues for the playoffs. Last year, Telangana Minister K. Taraka Ramarao openly requested the IPL and BCCI managements to host matches in Hyderabad and assured full support from the government. But the BCCI heads didn’t pay attention.
Earlier today, KTR held an interaction session on Twitter. During this chat, one of his followers asked, “Sir, why is Telangana not sponsoring cricket matches in Hyderabad? We as cricket fans would like to see some matches in Uppal stadium! #AskKTR @KTRTRS.”
Responding to him, KTR tweeted, “Ask Jay Shah and Ganguly.” With this single statement, KTR indirectly said that the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and chief secretary Jay Shah are the ones to be blamed for not holding IPL matches in Hyderabad. Let’s see if we get a chance to witness IPL games at least in the next edition of the league.
