India’s Neeraj Chopra has scripted a historic feat at world championships on Sunday. Neeraj won silver medal in javelin at the 2022 World Athletics Championships being held in Eugene, Oregon, in the United States. This is India’s first-ever silver medal at the prestigious competition. Neeraj is the second Indian to win medal at the World Championships after Anju Bobby George achieved the feat in 2003.
Neeraj registered a throw of 88.13m in his fourth attempt and hence he secured the silver medal at the championship. Grenadian javelin thrower Anderson Peters secured the gold medal after registering a throw of 90.54m. It can be noted that Neeraj had bagged Gold in 2022 Tokyo Olympics at 87.58m.
After winning silver at World Championships, Neeraj promised to work harder and aim for Gold for the next World Championships. Meanwhile, Neeraj spoke to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, and congratulated him for a great throw in the final. He won the hearts with his encouragement to Pakistan player.
CM Yogi Adityanath has congratulated. In a tweet in Hindi, Chief Minister Yogi said, “Today, Neeraj Chopra has scripted history in javelin throw at the World Athletic Championships by winning a silver medal.” “Many congratulations and best wishes to you for this memorable achievement that elevates India’s position in the field of athletics.
