Finally, the suspense over the schedule of IPL 2023 has ended. The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will kickstart on March 31st in Ahmedabad. Defending champions Gujarat Titans will take on Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of the tournament.
The final will also be held in Ahmedabad, on May 28. There will be a total of 74 games in the tournament. The league stage will consist of 70 games, which are scheduled to be held between March 31st to May 21. 12 cities will host these matches. Out of these, 10 cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jaipur, Chennai, Kolkata, Mohali and Ahmedabad) are regular franchise venues. Some matches will be played in the two additional venues, Dharamsala (second home venue of Punjab Kings) and Guwahati (second home venue for Rajasthan Royals).
After a gap of four years, IPL matches are returning to traditional venues. The last time the tournament was held in all traditional venues was in 2019. All teams will play 7 home games and 7 away games each.
The first edition of Women’s IPL will conclude on March 26. Men’s IPL will begin five days after the conclusion of the WIPL.
Just like last year, ten teams are divided into two groups. Group A consists of Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Group B consists of Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
