During the BCCI’s 92nd Annual Meeting held in Goa, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah pledged full support for constructing a new international cricket stadium in Vizag. This assurance came following discussions between Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) officials and BCCI leaders.
Already, the Andhra Cricket Association is maintaining Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy cricket stadium in Visakhapatnam, where some international cricket matches are held. However, the importance being given to the Telugu states, especially for Andhra Pradesh so far, by BCCI is negligible. Given the same, the announcement from Jay Shah is creating interest.
Earlier, MSK Prasad from ACA was picked as the chief selector of BCCI which seemed to be a favorable move by BCCI. Now, the promise of a stadium may give hope to the emerging cricketers from Andhra Pradesh.
The ACA delegation, including President P. Sarath Chandra Reddy, Secretary S.R. Gopinath Reddy, and Treasurer A.V. Chalam engaged in conversations regarding various development initiatives related to cricket in Andhra Pradesh with BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jai Shah, Vice President Rajeev Shukla, and other prominent figures.
As a result of these discussions, Jai Shah reportedly assured ACA officials that he would visit Vizag soon to assess the project and provide the necessary assistance for the construction of the new international stadium.
We have to see if this becomes a reality anytime soon.
