Former IPL Star Gets 8 Yr Jail For Raping Minor Girl

Shockingly, an international cricketer has been convicted of a heinous crime of raping a minor girl. The cricketer is Nepalese young bowling sensation Sandeep Lamichhane who played for Delhi Capitals(2018-20) in IPL.

Sandeep has been proven guilty of raping a minor girl and he was sentenced to 8 years jail term by the Kathmandu District Court, Nepal on 10 January. He was imposed a Rs 3 lakh fine by the court for the heinous crime and was asked to compensate the victim for an amount of Rs 2 lakh.

A minor girl had complained in September 2022 that Sandeep had raped her and after months of trial, he was convicted of the crime on December 29, 2023. The judgment on the degree of the punishment was reserved to January 10, 2024. The judgement has been passed now and Sandeep will have to serve 8 years jail sentence effective immediately.

Sandeep was a bright young prospect for Nepalese cricket and played in many T20 leagues across the globe. The 23-year-old had played 51 ODIs and 52 T20Is in his career. This shocking crime has destroyed his career.
