CSK all-rounder Shane Watson has announced retirement from all forms of cricket. On Tuesday, Australia’s all-rounder Shane Watson announced his retirement after Chennai Super King’s campaign ended early in IPL 2020. The 39-year-old cricketer posted a video on social media confirming the same.
Reports on Watson’s retirement had already surfaced. Sources in the CSK said that Watson became emotional when he told in the dressing room after the last game that he would retire.
In 2016, Watson retired from international cricket. He joined the CSK in 2018 playing a huge part in their title victory that year.
In the IPL 2018 edition, he was the Man of the Final when he hit a century against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In 2019 final match, he tried his best to help CSK emerge victorious against Mumbai Indians but his team fell short of one run and lost the title.
Though CSK lost the match, Watson won multiple fans for playing through with pain of an injured knee in that game.
In the IPL 2018 and 2019 editions, Watson made 555 and 398 runs but in 2020, he made only 299 runs from 11 innings. This included 83 runs against Kings XI Punjab in the tourney and the match was won by CSK.
On the whole, Watson will be remembered as a successful all-rounder in IPL. Watson amde 3,874 runs and picked up 92 wickets from 145 matched played for Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and CSK.
It can be noted that sportspersons are announcing retirement one after the other this year. In August, twio-time World Cup winning skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni retired from international cricket. The next day, Suresh Raina, following in the footsteps of his favourite captain and mentor Dhoni, too announced his retirement from international cricket.
