Telugu Pride Koneru Humpy Clinches Women’s Chess Championship

Published by

Just a few days back Telugu-origin teenager Gukesh who is currently based out of Tamil Nadu made the nation proud by becoming the World Chess Champion at the age of just 18.

Now, in another matter of great pride, our own Telugu chess champion Koneru Hampi has made the nation proud by winning FIDE Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship 2024.

After having won this very same championship back in 2019, she won the World Rapid Chess Championship again this year by defeating Indonesia’s Irene Sukandar.

Chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu took to social media to appreciate Humpy for the achievement.

“What a proud moment for India! Congratulations to Koneru Humpy on winning the FIDE Women’s World Rapid Chess Championship 2024. Her incredible triumph caps off a phenomenal year for Indian chess!” Babu tweeted.

It really needs to be said that 2024 has been an incredible year for India in the chess arena. First, it was Gukesh, who made the nation proud by becoming the World chess champion, and this is followed by the latest achievement of Koneru Humpy.
