Gambhir Was Not First Choice of BCCI?

The Indian cricket team is currently navigating some harsh challenges. The form of captain Rohit Sharma and senior batter Virat Kohli has gone South. The head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and his support staff find themselves under scrutiny.

The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against an aggressive Australian side has been anything but smooth. Amidst this, it is known that Gambhir was not the first choice of BCCI.

Gambhir was not the first choice for BCCI as the head coach but it is in fact VVS Lakshman who was on their mind. But, somehow Gambhir has been picked as the head coach.

A senior BCCI official, speaking anonymously, hinted at possible repercussions for Gambhir if India’s performances don’t improve.

“With the Champions Trophy on the horizon, further setbacks could jeopardize Gambhir’s position. His appointment was not the first choice, and if results don’t speak in his favor, his role might be reevaluated,” the official said.

Amid these challenges, there is growing speculation about limiting Gambhir’s role to the T20 format, where he has proven his mettle as a successful captain and mentor.
