Team India, which already lost two test matches in a row in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, has started the fifth and final test match at Sydney Cricket Ground on a disastrous note. It got all-out for mere 185 runs in the first innings. People thought Rohit Sharma’s absence would help team in making a strong comeback but India was poor without him too.
As captain Rohit Sharma opted out due to his poor performance, Jasprit Bumrah wore the skipper’s hat this time. While Shubman Gill replaced Rohit, Prasidh Krishna came in the place of injured Akash Deep. Everyone thought India would make a strong comeback as Bumrah returned to captaincy after winning the first test. However, the first day was a disappointment.
After winning the toss, Bumrah chose to bat first. However, it got a poor start as openers Jaiswal and Rahul got out pretty early. Only Rishab Pant (40) played a responsible innings but it lasted very short. Bumrah’s (22) cameo in the end didn’t help either. As a result, India got all-out for just 185.
Scott Boland (4/31) picked up four wickets, while Mitchell Starc (3/49) and Pat Cummins (2/37) took three and two wickets respectively. After this disastrous start, it has to be seen if India makes a strong comeback later in the test.
