There’s one aspect of The Chennai Super Kings management that has come under serious pump on social media and this is the batting order compiled by the team. Many people are opining that Dhoni is coming in too late in the innings while he is having the opportunity to come earlier and actually have an impact on the game.
When asked to comment on this batting order and also the reason why Dhoni is delaying his arrival, the head coach of Chennai, Fleming had an affirmative response.
“MS judges it – his body is, knees aren’t what they used to be and he is moving okay but there is still an attrition aspect to it. He can’t bat ten overs running full stick so he will gauge on the day what he can give us.
If the game’s in the balance like today, he will go a little bit earlier & he backs other players when other opportunities are up – So he’s balancing that – I said it last year, he is too valuable to us – leadership & wicket-keeping – to throw him in nine-ten overs. He has actually never done that so, look, from around 13-14 overs, he is looking to go depending on who’s in.” Fleming stated.
It appears that CSK is more focused on having Dhoni with the team consistently rather than depending on him to win games. At 43, his physical condition can’t let him bat for 10 over every game and this could be why he is limiting his stay at the crease.
But for fans who are paying big money to watch him play, this late arrival of Dhoni is coming as disappointing news.
