US Protests: Satya Nadella Tweets For African-Americans

Published by

The worldwide anger is growing rapidly over the death of an unarmed black man named George Floyd which took place in police custody in the US. Many have joined hands in solidarity and Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s India-origin CEO is the latest to show unity with the African-American community.

Nadella emphasized that he won’t tolerate racism by tweeting “There is no place for hate and racism in our society. Empathy and shared understanding are a start, but we must do more. I stand with the Black and African American community and we are committed to building on this work in our company and in our communities,” on his Twitter.

Last week, a video showed handcuffed George Floyd who died while a Minneapolis officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for more than a couple of minutes and the incident spiked mass protests in several parts of the world. The protests soon were turned into global anger, causing violence and imposing curfew across America. The Officer was later charged with third-degree murder. Also, London witnessed huge protests, gathering around US embassy with placards “I can’t breathe” and “No justice; no peace”.

On the other hand, the Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has pledged 10 million dollars to non-profits working for racial justice. He said he stands strong with the Black community and all those working towards justice in honour of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmad Arbery and far too many others whose names will not be forgotten.

Apart from Nadella and Zukerberg, Google’s Sundar Pichai had also shown solidarity with African-Americans. “Today on US Google & YouTube homepages we share our support for racial equality in solidarity with the Black community and in memory of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery & others who don’t have a voice. For those feeling grief, anger, sadness & fear, you are not alone,” he tweeted.
