Malavika, The Lady Who Cheated NRI & Techie

Published by

A software techie from Hyderabad has approached Kukatpally police claiming that the woman named Malavika Devati has cheated on him of Rs.1.2 crore over the matrimonial site. The man hails from Andhra Pradesh and currently resides in Hyderabad. Earlier, the 44-year-old Malavika has cheated an NRI with Rs.65 lakhs and cops are looking out for more such victims in her hands.

The lady was also accused of several matrimony cheating cases and she was taken into judicial custody on May 27. However, her latest victim is Andhra’s techie and the case came into light after the man approached the KPHB police station on Monday after seeing news reports. The techie cried foul that Malavika had cheated him since August 2017 back when they both started chatting over telugumatrimony.com. And, the lady is notoriously known for using matrimonial websites to lure victims on the pretext of marriage.

In Andhra techie’s case, Malavika changed her name to ‘Anu Pallavi Maganti’ and chatted with him all these years. She said to the man that she is a doctor with origins in the USA and her parents are also doctors. She told him that she stays in Jubilee Hills by creating a wealthy-image.

The KPHB police station inspector S Laxmi Narayana said, “The man had expressed interest in marrying the accused and wanted to meet her. But, she told him that her family is not interested in his alliance and they were planning to get her married to a rich businessman’s son. The victim was emotionally trapped, the woman claimed she needed the money to fight a legal case against her family”.

The techie trusted the accused as he was promised joint custody of her property and he also gave her a huge amount by borrowing and digging out all his savings. Police registered a case under section 420 (Cheating and dishonesty), Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and Section 66 (Computer-related offences) of the Information Technology Act 2000.

Malavika is in custody from May 27 after a US-based NRI filed a complaint at Jubilee Hills PS. The police also took her son Venkateswara Pranav Lalith Gopal Devati (aged 22) into custody as he helped his mother creating the accounts. Malavika’s husband Srinivas Devati is absconding. Malavika was earlier involved in many cheating cases under the Nallakunta and Marredpally police station limits along with her husband and mother-in-law.
