After a good two days at the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian contingent disappoints on the third day. Multiple sports took place but the Indian players could not make it big. Here is the roundup of the events that took place on the third day (Monday) at the 2021 Olympics.
Fencing:
Bhavani Devi beat Tunisia’s Nadia ben Azizi and won the first-ever fencing match in the history of the Olympics. However, Bhavani Devi was knocked out after losing to France’s Manon Brunet.
Archery
Men’s Team 1/8 Eliminations took place today. Pravin Jadhav, Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai defeated Kazakhstan and confirmed their berth to Quarter Finals. But, the team failed to perform well against Republic of Korea in the Quarter Final. (6-0).
Shooting
Skeet Men’s Qualifications took place for the second day. Bajwa from India could not clear the rounds and was not qualified.
Table Tennis
Achanta Kamal of India defeated Apolonia Tiago of Portugal in Men’s Singles Round 2. (4-2)
Mukherjee Sutirtha of India lost to YU Fu of Portugal in Women’s Singles Round 2. (4-0)
Batra Manika of India lost to Polcanova Sofia of Austria in Women’s Singles Round 3. (0-4)
Tennis
Nagal Sumit lost to Medvedev Danilil in Men’s Singles Second round. (0-2)
Sailing
Indian sailors Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan failed to hold on to their overnight positions. During race 02, they failed to put on an impressive show. Nethra ended the day placed 28th overall. Vishnu finished the second and third races in 20th and 24th places.
Badminton
Rankireddy Satwiksairaj and Shetty Chirag were defeated by Gideon Marcus Fernaldi and Sukamuljo Kevin Sanjaya of Indonesia in Men’s Doubles Group Stage – Group A. (2-0).
Boxing
Kumar Ashish of India lost to Tuoheta Erbieke of China. (0-5)
Swimming
India’s swimmer Sajan Prakash fails to qualify for the semifinals of the men’s 200m butterfly event. He finished with a timing of 1.57.22 but it wasn’t good enough for top-16.
Hockey
In Women’s Hockey, Germany defeated India with 2-0. India tasted second defeat.
