PV Sindhu, the star badminton player of India is the biggest hope for a Gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. PV Sindhu faced A Yamaguchi of Japan in the quarter-finals and headed to the semi-finals.
On Friday’s match between Sindhu and Yamaguchi, Sindhu won the first two sets and tasted the victory. She completed the first set with 21-13 and the second set with 22-20. Sindhu worked so hard in the second set. It was a nail-biting finish and Yamaguchi almost bagged the second set. But, Sindhu maintained her composure and scored the final crucial points with some impressive shots. With this victory, Sindhu is into the semi-finals.
On 25th July, Sindhu defeated K. Polikarpova, N.Y. Cheung on 28th July. Yesterday, she defeated Denmark player Mia Blichfeldt and entered the quarter-finals. With today’s victory, she is into the semi-finals.
PV Sindhu was the first Indian woman to earn an Olympic silver medal in 2016. She rose to a career-high World ranking of no. 2 in April 2017. She was the youngest and first female individual to bag an Olympic Silver medal representing India. It was also the second instance of a podium finish at the Olympics by any Indian badminton player.
Let us hope that Sindhu reaches the final and return to India with a Gold Medal.
