India’s Olympics Day 13: Memorable Day

The day began with the Indian Men’s Hockey team taking a Bronze medal while the day ended on a happy note where Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya bagged a Silver Medal. In between, there are a few disappointments but it is indeed a memorable day for the Indian contingent.

Men’s Hockey

Indian team clinched a bronze medal in the crucial match against Germany. For the first time after four decades, the Indian team grabbed a medal in the Olympics. Team India won by scoring 5 medals while Germany scored 4 medals.

Wrestling

Vinesh Phogat cleared the first game with a victory. But, she suffered a defeat after being pinned by Belarus’ Vanesa Kaladzinskaya in the 53 kg quarter-final. Later, Vanesa failed to qualify to the finals because of which Vinesh could not have a Repechage chance as well.

Anshu Malik who was qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the place of Sakshi Malik took part in the Repechage bout. Unfortunately, she lost to Russia’s Valeria Koblova, the Rio Olympics silver medallist by 1-5 in a 57kg competition.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya clinched a silver medal in the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling event.

Deepak Puniya lost to the Sanmarinese-American Myles Amine in the men’s freestyle 86kg wrestling event.

Golf

Golfer Aditi Ashok had a flawless five-under 66 and is tied second on nine-under 133 with Danish duo, Nanna Koerstz Madsen (64) and Emily Kristine Pedersen (63). Diksha Dagar, on the other hand, returned a 72 to share 53rd place.

Athletics

Three Indian racers took part in the men’s walk race competition. Indian race walkers Rahul Rohilla finished 47th while KT Irfan was 51st among 57 athletes. Sandeep Kumar finished at 23rd place.
