England pace bowler James Anderson has gone past India’s Anil Kumble’s feat to become the third highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. Kumble has 619 wickets to his credits while Anderson surpassed his feat in the first Test against India being played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
KL Rahul was the 620th wicket of Anderson. The Indian opener played a defining knock in the first innings of India’s batting. Just when Rahul was looking good to score his second Test century in England, Anderson dismissed him at 84.
Sri Lanka’s Muralidharan and Australia’s Shane Warner are the leading wicket-takers in Test cricket with 800 and 708 wickets respectively. Anderson is the only pace bowler to pick 600 Test wickets.
Meanwhile India has been bowled out for 278 runs in the first innings. Team India has a lead of 95 runs which is decent enough.
