India has achieved a major in administering the Covid-19 vaccine though it is going at a snail pace. The total vaccines administered so far has crossed the 50 crore mark and on Friday 43.29 people received the vaccine jab.
Upon this, PM Narendra Modi tweeted, “India’s fight against COVID-19 receives a strong impetus. Vaccination numbers cross the 50 crore mark. We hope to build on these numbers and ensure our citizens are vaccinated under #SabkoVaccineMuftVaccine movement.”
However the total figures include people who have received a single and both the doses. Moreover India has population of over 130 crore and amidst the fear of ‘Third Wave,’ India needs to speed up the vaccination drive especially in the rural parts of the country.
In India only three vaccines are available and they are Covaxin, Covishield and Sputnik-V. The government of India is making attempts to roll out more vaccines. Covavaxin has enrolled with the government and it is likely to be out in October. Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer are also in line.
Meanwhile India has 38,628 new infections and 617 deaths in the last 24 hours. Currently the total vaccination number stands at 50,10,09,609.
