The Flying Sikh Milkha Singh had dreamt of bagging a Gold Medal at the Olympics. He had come close to winning a medal in track and field events but fell short as he finished 4th in the 1960 Rome Olympics.
Later, he dreamt of watching an athlete sealing the Gold. Today, Neeraj Chopra scripted history by sealing a Gold Medal in a track event.
Soon after winning the medal, the Indian spearman dedicated the medal to Milkha Singh. The 23-year-old had spoken to the media in Tokyo and revealed the same. “I dedicate this medal to Milkha Singh. I hope he’s watching upon me from wherever he is,” he said.
Neeraj Chopra bagged the Gold Medal in the Javelin Throw event. He defeated all the strong contenders and came up with the best throw of 87.58m in his second attempt.
Milkha Singh had passed away in June 2021.
