Tamil Nadu announced 12-day complete lockdown in Chennai and three other districts, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet and Kancheepuram from June 19 to June 30.
Chief Minister Edappadi K, Palaniswami a ‘maximised restricted lockdown’ will be in effect in these areas. Grocery shops, takeaways and other shops selling essential good will be permitted to remain open from 6 am to 2 pm.
The other guidelines for complete lockdown in the four districts include people tra velling in their own vehicles can travel only within 2 km of their house, only essential and travel for emergency and medical services will be allowed.
Banks will remain open only on June 29 and June 30. The authorities will issue e-passes for weddings, deaths and medical emergencies. Amma Unavagams and community kitchens will also be open during the lockdown period.
Significantly, Tamil Nadu is leading other states in sample testing in the country. Tamil Nadu reportedly conducted 6,38,846 tests, while Maharashtra stands second with 5,77,819 tests, Rajasthan stands next by conducting 5,43,312 tests and Andhra Pradesh stands in the fourth place by testing more than 5,10,000 samples.
