As the coronavirus cases are declining and vaccination pace is picking up, it is to be understood that pandemic is now transiting to endemic. Also, the economy, corporations are jumping back to normalcy and are getting back on track.
It is time for many companies across the world to shift back to calling their employees back to office. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, a couple of months ago, wrote an email to their employees about “hybrid workplace”. He wrote that 60 per cent of the employees would come together in the office a few days every week, another 20 per cent would work in new office locations, and the remaining 20 per cent would work from home.
Ever since then, Hybrid models have become popular. This model entails partially working from home and partially from office. Big technology giants like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro and Marico are also backing this innovative hybrid model. TCS said that 25 per cent of its total workforce will be working from home till 2025.
Wipro is also planning to end the work from home and made its intention public about embracing hybrid model and calling back employees. And many India’s leading FMCG companies have also announced plans to enforce the hybrid model of working for all employees. Marico said that this new type of working will offer greater flexibility to employees and enable the majority of employees to work from the office at reduced frequency.
Next big is, all these companies would be following a hot desking strategy under which employees can sit anywhere when in office. Since the epidemiologists and health experts are warning about the possibility of a third wave hitting the country, we need to wait and see how this new and innovative hybrid model of working will succeed.
