One of the shocking incidents of this year’s Indian Premier League is definitely David Warner’s removal as captain and him eventually being dropped from the playing XI of Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has been loyal and the finest overseas player to grace the league in its history. One cannot deny his undying passion for the game.
And when the temper issues kept Warner away from the captaincy roles in Australia, SRH trusted him with the captaincy. The franchise and the Telugu states love Warner and he has often reciprocated his love for the state.
Yesterday, a social media post by Warner has almost confirmed he will be leaving the franchise. Expressing his gratitude towards the fans, the ex-SRH skipper wrote, “thank You for the memories created. To all the fans, you have been a driving force for our team always to give 100%. I can’t thank you all enough for the support shown. It’s been a great ride. My family and I are going to miss you all!!”
Soon after a report from a sports journal claims that the Australian opener has already been approached by multiple teams ahead of IPL 2022. It is believed that franchises have been shocked by SRH’s treatment of Warner and want to pounce on the opportunity to sign him. The report further states that Tom Moody’s aspirations to become Team India’s coach after Ravi Shastri’s exit.
Warner scored just 195 runs in eight games at a below-par average of 24.47. Since joining SRH in 2014, Warner has crossed the 500 run-mark every season and arguably been the most consistent player in the league. And not to forget, he is the only player in IPL history to win the Orange cap three times.
This is certainly an emotional time for Warner as the land of Hyderabad welcomed him when his country’s media was bashing him black and blue after the ball-tampering controversy. And now with the huge auction just around the corner, rumour is strife as to which team Warner will be joining!
