Fans were missing vintage MS Dhoni for the last few years. Ever since he announced retirement from international cricket, Dhoni is only taking part in the IPL. But we haven’t seen his best in the last two editions. Finally, Dhoni unleashed his older self in the qualifier match against Delhi Capitals last night.
While chasing a target of 173, Dhoni’s CSK was in a bit of trouble with 24 runs needed off the last two overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali were on strike. Right on the first ball, Gaikwad got out by giving a catch to Axar Patel.
Everyone thought that Jadeja will come to bat after Gaikwad’s dismissal. But Dhoni himself came to the crease with a huge task on his shoulders. Dhoni missed hitting his first ball but he sent the very next ball out of the park.
The equation came down to 13 off the last six balls. Moeen Ali, who was on strike, got out on the first ball. Dhoni then came on strike and had hit two fours on a trot. The equation then came down to 5 off 3 balls. Then, Tom Curran bowled a wide and made it 4 off 3 balls. Dhoni wasted no time and sent the next ball to the boundary and made CSK enter the final.
Dhoni scored 18 off 6 balls and proved that his story is not finished yet. He brought back all the nostalgic memories to CSK and Indian cricket fans. The whole social media blasted with the praises on the former Indian captain.
This is the 9th time CSK is entering the finals of the IPL. The Chennai franchise made it to the playoffs for the 11th time in the history of the tournament. It has to be seen which team will face Dhoni and co. in the finals on Friday.
