In a grim milestone, national capital New Delhi has beaten the ‘worst-hit’ city Mumbai and took away the first spot of the highest Corona cases in the country. New Delhi, which has a population of about 1.8 crore, recorded 73,780 cases.
With this, Delhi has beaten Mumbai which registered 70,878 cases. However, Mumbai still stood top among the death toll due to Covid. The death toll in Mumbai is at 4062 whereas the death toll in Delhi is relatively lesser i.e 2429. Earlier on Tuesday, Delhi had surpassed Tamil Nadu.
On March 2nd, Delhi had witnessed the first Covid case. Currently, the total active Covid cases in the national capital stood at 26,586.
In the last week, Delhi recorded 3320 Covid cases on an average whereas Mumbai managed to limit the average to 1134. Mumbai has been controlling the cases. Meanwhile, as per the prediction the number of Corona cases would be doubled in Mumbai in 40 days, whereas it would take only 12.1 days in New Delhi and 19.4 days in Chennai to get the cases doubled. This means, the spreading of Corona Virus is quite faster in Delhi and Chennai compared to Mumbai and other cities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has held an all-party meeting last week to discuss the plan of action and the measures to be taken to control Covid in the national capital. He has suggested to work along with the state government. After holding the talks with the Union Government, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has announced the ‘Covid Response Plan’.
As per this, Covid tests would be conducted aggressively in the national capital and the plan is to do at least one Covid test at every home in Delhi by July 6. None other than Delhi’s Health Minister too tested positive for Covid which highlights the severity of the Corona in the national capital.
