The nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar, passed away on Sunday morning, leaving a void in her fans’ hearts. The pain of losing the legendary singer is still intact today and we truly miss her and her sweetest voice. In a similar vein, one of her old interviews went viral on social media where the musical genius spoke about rebirth.
The video is both painful and sad as Lata said she does not wish to be reborn again. And even if she does, she wouldn’t want to be Lata Mangeshkar again. She said in Hindi “Naa hi janam miley toh acha hain aur agar wakayi janam mila mujhe toh main Lata Mangeshkar banna nahi chahungi”. Loosely translating, “I don’t want to be reborn again. But if I do, I don’t want to be reborn as Lata Mangeshkar”.
When the host asks why with a surprised tone, the legendary singer smiles, “Lata Mangeshkar ki jo taqleefein hain wo usko hi pata hain (Lata Mangeshkar’s problems are known only to her).” Lata Mangeshkar’s life spun around several rumours regarding her love life. Once, actor Shatrughan Sinha revealed that Lata sacrificed her marriage for her family.
It is also believed that Lata and the fast-medium bowler from Rajasthan, Raj Singh Dungarpur, who later became the president of BCCI fell for each other. However, Raj comes from a Royal family and his father did not want his son to marry someone from a non-royal family. Nevertheless, Lata indeed sacrificed a lot. The queen of melody sang more than 30,000 songs in an almost eight-decade career. On Sunday evening, she was cremated at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park with full state honours.
