McDonald Burger Costs Rs 26k In Russia!

Published by

A couple of days ago, a piece of heartbreaking news came for food lovers in Russia that several iconic American food and beverage companies including McDonald’s Corp. and Starbucks Corp are suspending operations at Russian locations, as U.S. restaurant companies face calls from investors and consumers to reassess ties with the country. Mc Donald’s has been in Russia for nearly three decades and pausing its operations today by temporarily closing its 850 restaurants, left many consumers in dismay.

After Mc Donald’s, even Starbucks followed the former, saying the 130 restaurants it has in Russia would also immediately close. Sooner, Coca-Cola too followed suit. Now, in the latest move, several online listings showed people selling McDonald’s burgers and meals for high prices in Russia. Some pictures showed burgers being sold for 40,000 rubles (around Rs26,000), while two bags of McDonald’s food were on sale for 100,000 rubles around Rs66,000.

The hungry customers in Russia have rushed to experience their last meals in McDonald’s. A few desperately kept the stash for a long run. One video showed cars queuing around the block as Russians eagerly waited at drive-thru queues. Meanwhile, after Mc Donald’s, Starbucks, and Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, whose Pepsi drink has been sold in Russia since the early 1970s, said it would suspend soda sales, including 7Up. Talking about McDonald’s, it opened its first restaurant in Russia in 1990 and became a symbol of Western culture to the Russian people.

“For 66 years, we have operated with the belief that communities are made better when there’s a McDonald’s nearby,” Chris Kempczinski, the company’s chief executive, said in a statement. McDonald’s said it would continue to pay salaries for McDonald’s employees in Russia, as it has for its employees in Ukraine. Starbucks said its licensing partner in Russia would provide “support” to the nearly 2,000 employees in Russia. There’s no shortage of great restaurants on this planet, but only a select few can be considered influential and Mc Donald’s is the king among fast-food chains. Amid Vladimir Putin’s barbaric war, the viral picture on the internet showed a McDonald’s lover filling his fridge full of food from the restaurant after it announced closures. The photo shared on Reddit showed the person’s fridge rammed full of at least 50 burgers.
