Video: A Monk Threatens to Kidnap, Rape Muslim Women; Crowd Cheers

Published by

In a shocking and appalling video, a Hindu seer Mahant Muni Das is seen threatening to kidnap and rape Muslim women while addressing a public gathering outside a mosque in the Sitapur district near Lucknow. The video went viral and created an instant outrage. The UP police are currently investigating the video.

The video shows a local seer clad in saffron robes, addressing a gathering from inside a jeep. A man in a police uniform can also be seen in the background. The priest is heard making provocative remarks on a speaker as the crowd cheers him with shouts of “Jai Shri Ram”.

The man alleges a plot to murder him and adds that a sum of Rs 28 lakh has been collected for this. He then went on to say that if a Muslim harasses any girl in the area, he would kidnap Muslim women and publicly rape them. Once again, the crowd cheered for his disturbing statements.

The video was shot on April 2 but no action had been taken by the police so far. Several Twitter users have called for action against the religious leader. The users have flagged the communal remarks to the UN human rights body and National Commission for Women, seeking strict intervention in the matter. In one of the shared tweets, Sitapur police said a senior officer is investigating the matter and that action will be taken on the basis of facts.

In the latest happenings, #ArrestBajrangMuni started trending across the social media while the muni himself apologised for his comments and at the same time demands an arrest on the person who shared the video on social media.
