After weeks of hearings at the court for the Hollywood actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation cases against each other, the final verdict is out today.
The jurors found both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard liable for defamation against each other. They awarded Depp $15 million in damages from Heard and awarded Heard $2 million from Depp. The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages. Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages and no money for punitive damages.
Depp filed a lawsuit against Amber Heard in 2019, accusing her of defaming him with a publication in the Washington Post that described herself as a domestic abuse victim, although she never mentioned his name. Heard filed for divorce in 2016 and also filed for a restraining order against him that included a photo of her bruised face.
Depp alleged that he was the victim of physical and verbal abuse throughout his relationship with Heard.
After the court verdict, Amber Heard wrote a long post on her Instagram account expressing her disappointment in losing the case. Johnny Depp also wrote a post saying, ‘I’m truly humbled.’
