Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the National Emblem on top of the under construction Parliament on Monday. The emblem is made with Bronze metal and weighs around 9500 kilos and is 6.5 metres in height.
However the lions in the emblem caught everyone’s attention as they witnessed a change and now a political row erupted over it. Firstly PM Narendra Modi performing Hindu rituals while inauguration national emblem was severely objected by the oppositions and second is the expression of lions in the emblem.
Popular columnist Swati Chaturvedi opined that the lions in the new emblem look ugly. “The original is regal, so much grace & majesty the new one is disproportionate & looks ugly like a made in China bad copy,” tweeted Swati.
Renowned advocate Prashant Bhushan wrote, “From Gandhi to Godse; From our national emblem with lions sitting majestically & peacefully; to the new national emblem unveiled for the top of the new Parliament building under construction at Central Vista; Angry lions with bared fangs. This is Modi’s new India!”
Indeed when the emblem is carefully observed the lions look very aggressive in nature while the original had a composed look.
The PM Modi led government is racing against time on the Central Vista project (new Parliament) and it is estimated to be completed by October this year.
