On July 13th a class XII girl was found dead in a private school in Kallakurichi of Tamil Nadu which led to violent protests. In the latest development, the Madras High Court on Monday ordered a re-postmortem of the girl after a plea was filed by the deceased girl’s father. While the reports have it that the girl had committed suicide, the girl’s father claimed foul play in his daughter’s death. The HC ordered re-postmortem of the student.
The court further ordered the Tamil Nadu state government to form a special team to probe the incident and to arrest those responsible for the violence yesterday, in which the school was totally ransacked by some violent protestors.
Justice Sathish Kumar expressed dismay over the July 17 violence and asked as to who gave the mob permission to burn all transfer certificates of 4,500 students of the school.
“Police were not under the control of anyone. They should enforce the law. This court will monitor the probe,” said the judge, ordering the state government to identify all protestors and recover the loss caused by the violence. “Going forward, CB-CID will investigate any deaths that take place in educational institutions, and postmortem examinations will be done by a team of three doctors,” announced the judge.
He also told the court to take severe action against those who conduct trials on social media and adjourned the hearing to July 29.
Two Teachers Arrested
Meanwhile, two teachers of the private school were arrested on Monday on charges of abetment of suicide. Mathematics teacher cum warden of the school J Krithika and chemistry teacher P Haripriya were booked for abetment of suicide under Section 174 (1) of CrPC into 306 of ICP. The Chinnasalem police arrested 128 people on the charges of arson, rioting and damaging public property.
