Social media giant Facebook said it had removed a post of US President Donald Trump from his official page for containing false claims about the global pandemic Covid-19. The post was a video clip of a Trump interview on Fox News Channel uploaded by the Trump campaign on Wednesday.
This is for the first time, Facebook took such a daring step and in a statement, the spokesperson of the social media giant said, “This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation.”
Earlier Facebook faced a backlash for not removing Trump’s comments on racial protests that took place post the death of George Floyd and in June, Facebook removed ads of Trump campaign for using a Nazi symbol.
In the past popular micro-blogging site, Twitter took similar action but did not remove the posts. They marked with some labels and followers of Trump who noticed, were upset with Twitter.
However, the Trump campaign fumed over this and accused the Sillicon Valley companies of being biased against the President. Trump wants to retain the President position for the second time and is going all out with his comments and campaign.
