World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who had been expressing fears that the Covid-19 pandemic might not subside in the near future, said he hopes the Coronavirus pandemic will be over in less than two years.
He reminded that the Spanish flu of 1918 also took two years to overcome and said that with the current technological advances, he virus could be checked “in a shorter time”.
However, he did not rule out the chances of the virus spreading.
“Yet, we have the technology to stop it and the knowledge to stop it,” he said, stressing the need for staying united in fighting against the virus, which had killed 8,00,000 lakh people across the world and infected 22.7 million.
He was addressing the media in Geneva. Replying to a query on the rampant corruption in PPE kits, he said any type of corruption was unacceptable and termed it as a “murder”.
“If PPE kits are denied to health workers, their lives and those whom they treat are also put under risk,” he pointed out.
On Friday, there were protests in Kenyan capital Nairobi over alleged graft during the pandemic.
Corruption and mismanagement of the pandemic seems to be spread across the world just like the virus.
