Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has returned to Indian for ‘personal reasons’ and will be unavailable for the remainder of the IPL season, as reported by Chennai Super Kings CEO KS Viswanathan on official Twitter handle.
The reason is heard to be a tragedy in Suresh Raina’s family, though it was rumored about many members in the CSK team testing COVID-19 positive. According to the reports, Suresh Raina’s uncle has died after a midnight attack carried out by a gang, and Raina’s bua Asha Devi (father’s sister) is in critical condition. The attack happened in their Pathankot’s Thariyal village, while the family was sleeping on the terrace on August 19. The attackers are believed to be Kale Kachhewala gang and they attacked with lethal weapons. The attack was with an intention to loot.
Reports say, Asha Devi, Raina’s aunt, is in critical condition while his uncle Ashok Kumar (58) died in the attack. Cousins Kaushal Kumar and Apin Kumar along with Ashok’s 80-year-old mother sustained serious injuries in the attack.
Pathankot SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana revealed that the deceased has been identified as government contractor Ashok Kumar, but has not confirmed anything about the relation with Raina.
