The New Year is about partying for people but for the government it is all about revenue. In view of New Year, both Andhra and Telangana governments have extended the sales of liquor till 1 AM on December 31st and as a result, both the state governments earned huge revenue.
AP reported Rs 127 crore liquor sales on December 31st. On a normal working day, the sales would touch Rs 72 crore but on December 29th, 30th and 31st, the sales are reported Rs 72.3 crore, Rs 86 crore and Rs 127 crore respectively. The total sales of three days is Rs 285.3 crore and that’s huge. The AP government is expecting similar sales during the Sankranthi festival which is just two weeks away.
The Excise Department of Telangana posted liquor sales worth Rs 215.74 crore on December 31st. Hyderabad 1 and 2 depos have reported revenue of Rs 16.90 crore and Rs 20.78 crore respectively. In 19 depos, 2,17,444 cases of liquor were sold while 1,28,455 cases of beer were sold as per the Excise department.
January 1st being Sunday, the sales might go up, estimate the officials.
