Digital marriages are the latest trend

Published by

Not even in our wildest dreams did we imagine that marriages would take place online without guests, food, feast, and lively ambiance. Due to the current lockdown in the country, many pre-scheduled marriages in the month of April, May, and June have been postponed.

The ban on travel is making people push their special days to the year-end. However, a few have decided to not postpone but marry their loved ones though digital ceremonies, on the same day which they have set for its auspicious astrological coordinates.

They have decided to tie the knot online. Recently, a couple got married in TamilNadu over the video conferencing app Zoom. The couple, who were online, all glammed up in their wedding attire, had the pastor joined the video conference, and completed rituals as the latter chanted prayers. All the family members and relatives have also blessed the newlywed through video calls.

In Raipur also, a couple got married online amid lockdown as the priest chanted hymns in front of the ritual fire and asked the bride’s father to lead a “digital kanyadaan,”. This peak marriage season is indeed facing a big debacle and many people who don’t prefer online marriages are looking forward for the pandemic to end.

Anupam Mittal, who is the founder and CEO of Shaadi.com, said that he is seeing some profound Indian Lockdown weddings. “We are helping them make the best out of the situation in these times of adversity.” Sites like Shaadi.com are assisting couples with online makeup and Mehendi professionals, digital wedding invites and food deliveries to guests’ homes.
